I was inspired by the conversation I had with a young adult this afternoon about him going to barber school. I had never heard of someone going to barber school. Sure you hear of people going to beauty school, but barber school? Needless to say I was interested in hearing more so I asked him all kinds of questions:
- How is the program structured?
- How long is it?
- What do you do? and so on.
As he was answering I could tell how passionate he was about cutting hair. He has been cutting hair since he was a freshman in high school.
At barber school he said that you do more book work than actual cutting. He learns everything about the body and infections. He makes sure that when he cuts hair every customer gets a fresh, clean pair of blades. Every customer is different and no haircut is the same. I was fascinated with this young man who knew so much and was so passionate. I started giving him advice on what he needs to do in order to to his business to the next level. He was caught off guard because he wasn’t expecting anything in return. I told him, think of a name, get yourself a website, write your bio (he had told me it perfectly and thats when I said, that’s your story), and start writing your book.
“Each story starts here in this chair. Each person who sits here has a story waiting to be told. Every cut is different, its never the same.”
Yes, this young adult was really impressed and I could see the wheels turning as we talked. It was exciting for both of us and I can’t wait to see what he does in the future.
