Ed Troxell Creative Now multiply that by 4 and that’s how much it may cost to recruit (recruiter fees, headhunting fees, outsourcing for coverage, others’ wages for coverage, relocation fees, sign on bonus, etc.), onboard, at the company, downtime while they learn your business and systems, and additional training when replacing an IT person.
This reminds me of military ranking system- where you must earn the rank according to knowledge. Respect and pay is gained and higher as you go up the chain.
wazzzzzzz upppppp
Hey Paula and Tammy!
mickiiiiii
Yep! The right tools and resources are critical!
Love love love the topic of keeping loyal employees! Yay HR!!!
Yaaay Jennifer! This HR episode is right up your alley!
Right! Can you be a part of my employer’s IT Dept? They are so non responsive and we lose good people every week.

I’ll fill out the form so I can be on next week
Your unique skillset is what makes you such a great find, Ed!!
Thank you Micki Webb
You can’t afford not to hire good talent. Low productivity due to poor tech costs your company LOTS of money.
Remember, it costs up to 4 times an IT salary to replace an IT person at your company.
Retention is huge!!
$85k-$120k

Recruiting for most non-tech positions are 1.3 – 2.7 times their annual salary cost.
Yes, you are a DEAL and undervalued
Ed = actually responsive IT
Sometimes it’s much cheaper and better hire a freelancer than an employee. You can break your contract if they are a bad hire.
Very difficult to fire an employee unless they did something very egregious like theft, drugs, safety issues, etc.
1. For employee retention: Pay a decent wage.
Yes everyone is awesome!
1. Pay a decent wage
2. Recognize and celebrate greatness
2. Recognize greatness often – notice their hard work

Yes Micki 🤣🤣🤣
Come to Kansas – we’re in the middle
Amen!!!
6. Don’t pay new hires the same as your seasoned employees
Oh YES!!!!!!! Have the right compensation plan and know how to pay right.
Many seasoned employees have not received enough raises over the years
So new people negotiate at the beginning of their employment and companies are so desperate to pay the rate so they can get new talent
Uneducated hiring managers go after shiny instead of true and steady.
It will get worse as the talent shortage turns desperate
There are now more open jobs than people looking for a job – first time in decades!
Employers will not be able to lowball much longer
Social Media Specialist
Someone needs a good HR person to help them with their job descriptions…
Wow! Media coordinator sounds like a salary to me, definitely not free!
But free or volunteer gets people in trouble as they can get into a wage and pay claim through the Department of Labor.
Same thing with internships – so many lawsuits have come with these positions. Internship does not mean free!!!!
There are so many laws of internship that people don’t follow
So interesting! Sounds like a great lead magnet 😉
Yes! In fact I believe I have services covering internship creation and implementation
Jennifer Endsley
I just told a very good client “Not every one can afford a Micki. And that’s okay.” The client called back and agreed to the higher rate.
Get a third party or freelancer and treat them not the same as employees

Love this! Thank you for sharing!
Sorry I meant to post that earlier 🙀
Sorry I meant to post that earlier
All good!
There was a big lawsuit last year that made the DOL change the rules on internships.
That’s what makes the Hey Ed membership worth every cent!
It totally is!
DOL – Department of Labor
Also make sure you pay the same no matter what the gender … even if they have a spouse who is working for you.
but it’s SO true!
LOL!
Yesss!
YES x 1000
Thanks Ed!
Demetria Shoemaker
Thank you.
You bet! Thank you for tuning in!
You need the tools and resources to be successful.
You really have me rethinking my resources and getting help!
yay! Yeah, it’s always good to review what you have and need — and know where to turn to when you need it.
