What’s the best career advice you have ever received?

Architect Tom Kundig gave a talk in Santa Rosa a few years ago when I was acting as an architect on a design-build project. He advised me to embrace the problems of a project. He said that the best designs hit challenges that drive them to be great. I use this idea as fuel in everything I create.

What is your proudest career accomplishment and why?

With no restaurant experience, I created a successful and profitable restaurant concept. I wrote a menu, bought wine, created all marketing, waited tables, tended bar, covered the chefs days off and created a profitable biz right outa the gate. It was where I learned that I can do anything!

What has been the hardest career moment and how did you overcome it?

My biz flooding nine months after opening was by far the hardest thing to overcome. Thankfully my community showed up to support me and get me through.
