What’s the best career advice you have ever received?
My father would make me as a 4th grader watch the news. He told me as an American citizen its my responsibility to know what’s going on in my country and community. My father’s advice has helped me for 20 years cover stories that impacted my community and nation as my responsibility and not a privilege.
What is your proudest career accomplishment and why?
My proudest moment is covering stories that put my station in the national spotlight from the removal of the confederate flag to the Charleston church shooting. Tough stories but I helped to write history.
What has been the hardest career moment and how did you overcome it?
The moments when you can’t help, even as a journalist. I will never forget the grandmother who called the station after losing her grandchildren in a fire. She felt the fire department was at fault. But it could not be proven. It was hard to here this grandmother weep and feel hopeless yourself.
